Can we all just take a moment to look at this ‘road’? The drive up the mountain (sometimes referred to as “no man’s land”) is not for the faint of heart. You may not believe this, but in dry season, this road is flat. Yes, flat. Take note: on the other side of the mud wall, it’s a straight drop down the mountain side.
On my way down the mountain, there were eleven of us packed into a truck (six in the cab, another five in back). I was asked by one of the ethnic people I work with if I was scared (I’m not gonna lie, the road feels like a gigantic three hour long slip and slide this time of year). I said that I wasn’t. Which was mostly true. I asked my friend if he believed me, and he responded by saying, “I believe you, because you have a strong heart”.
When I’m up on that mountain, sometimes I feel like my heart is many things… strong not being one of them. One of my prayers is that when I feel weak, that Christ’s strength would show through in spite of me. I am learning how to pray less for safety, and more for strength.
These slimy roads help give me very practical application for such a prayer. :)
